TRANSPORTATION
Shelby County is served by a major 4-lane US Highway, US 36/MO 110, also known as the Chicago-Kansas City Expressway (CKC). Originally two lanes, US 36 opened the new 4-lane highway through Shelby County in 2010, along with improvements in Macon, Monroe, Ralls and Marion Counties, thus completing the 4-lane expansion across the state of Missouri, from St. Joseph to Hannibal. Shelby County is also served by Missouri Highways 15, 151 and 168.
The southern part of Shelby County, along US 36, lies along the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
Shelby County is also serviced by the Mid-American Port Authority.
Airport service is provided at Macon Fower Municipal Airport, Kirksville Regional Airport, Columbia Regional Airport, Omar Bradley Memorial Airport in Moberly, Mexico Municipal Airport, Hannibal Municipal Airport and Quincy Municipal Airport (Baldwin Field) in Quincy, IL. Additionally, there are small air strips near Shelbyville and the private Sharpe Memorial Airport in the Heartland community.
WORKFORCE
One of our strong points I believe is the labor force that is located within a one hour drive of Shelby County. We have the potential to reach over 60,000 people that are currently working or looking for a job. This is approximately 47% of the working population in Northeast Missouri. If you were too take out the number of people working and just look at the number of unemployed workers in our labor shed. We have around 3,000 people which is 4% of the population of Northeast Missouri. With access to several Community Colleges and Universities in the area Shelby County has the ability to not only reach an educated workforce, but help train your workforce as you grow.
