The Shelby County Economic Development Board is participating in a campaign called “Get Vocal & Shop Local”. According to an American Express study in 2019, for every $100 spent locally $45 of secondary local spending stays in the community, compared to $14 for a big-box chain — That statistic was nearly identical to later results across the many Civic Economics studies. That’s an incredible gap between local independent stores and big box chains! And, Small Businesses Donate 250% More to Charity Than Chains. That alone is enough to encourage people to shop local.
The campaign will begin in March and continue through April 10, 2021 at which time a Business Expo will be held in Shelby County to celebrate the accomplishments of our local businesses. There will be a Ribbon Cutting ceremony for each new business opening their doors within the past two years. (If you are a new business owner, please contact Wendy Brumbaugh, SCED Director) Let’s celebrate the successes for Shelby County.
Stay tuned for more specific details about the event, but mark your calendar today because you won’t want to miss the event.
Another Missouri Initiative is the “Buy MO” Campaign
The Office of Lieutenant Governor has created a national BUY MISSOURI economic development initiative to actively promote to other states and the world the products that are grown, manufactured, processed, and/or made in Missouri. Approved products and businesses will be listed on the Business Directory page of the website. This is apowerful way to promote your locally grown/made products.
The “Buy Missouri!” campaign is organizing a variety of activities such as community events, entertainment attractions, and trade shows to promote tourism, business, and economic developments which will showcase Missouri-made products and businesses.
